BOJ to hold key interest rate at 0.50% in September meeting - poll

• The findings from Reuters' latest poll of economists on the BOJ - 11 September 2025

• 65 of 68 economists (96%) expect BOJ to keep key interest rate unchanged at 0.50% in September
• 36 of 66 economists (55%) expect BOJ to raise key interest rate to at least 0.75% in Q4 (previously 63%)
• The median prediction for the year-end rate remains at 0.75%, unchanged from the August poll
• 22 of 29 economists (76%) do not expect wage hikes at the spring wage negotiations next year to exceed this year's level of 5.25%; median view offered was 4.80%

The Japanese central bank might still be on track to raise rates again next despite political uncertainty and tariff worries. However, that final point on wages could prove to be tough to navigate come next year.
