Major US stock indices open modestly higher

The major US stock indices are opening higher. The NASDAQ index is looking for a another record close.

A snapshot of the market currently shows:

• Dow industrial average up 43.65 points or 0.16% at 44298.43.
• S&P index of 5.54 points or 0.09% at 6269.24.
• NASDAQ index of 36.78 points or 0.18% at 20767.27

The small-cap Russell 2000 is up 5.08 points or 0.24%.

Netflix will announce earnings after the close. Shares are currently down down to dollars and $0.34 or -0.19% at $1247.97
