Taiwan Inflation Rises To 1.54%

Taiwan's consumer price inflation increased somewhat in July after easing to more than a 4-year low in June, data released by the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting, and Statistics showed on Wednesday.

The consumer price index climbed 1.54 percent year-on-year in July, faster than the 1.36 percent rise in June, which was the slowest CPI inflation since March 2021.

Food inflation accelerated to 2.91 percent in July from 2.82 percent in June. The decline in transportation and communication costs eased to 0.89 percent from 1.36 percent, which also contributed to the rise in inflation. Meanwhile, the growth of health costs slowed to 1.66 percent from 1.89 percent.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose a seasonally adjusted 0.24 percent in July versus a flat change in the prior month.
